| dc.description.abstract | The parameterization of the product is conceived to involve users in the design process, giving them control over the details of the design. A product is parametric or customizable if the user is provided with sufficient parameters to adapt the product to his or her needs. The trend towards product customization is being adopted in the industry as a strategy to add value and differentiate from the competition. This communication describes the design process of a parametric product, specifically a coffee table with a decorative function, with the aim of satisfying the needs of the end user. Providing the user with the possibility of experimenting with different combinations is a satisfying experience in which the user feels part of the design process. The flexibility offered by parametric design, combined with the possibilities of digital manufacturing techniques, makes this combination a perfect one. Furthermore, different combinations of parameters have been selected through experimental design to execute mechanical analysis. Therefore, the product proposed in this work is conceived to be manufactured by additive manufacturing, and consists of parts that can be assembled by the user at the place of use. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025. | es |
