| dc.description.abstract | Macro-encapsulated phase change material (PCM) panels were installed in the air cavity of a new type of ventilated facade. During the winter period, the PCM increases the heat storage capacity of the system exposed to solar radiation while during summer the system can be used as a cold storage unit or as a night free cooling device. The aim of this study is to improve and select the most appropriate operational schedule of the system under different summer weather conditions, during the solidification and melting processes of the PCM in order to achieve net electrical energy savings. In order to accomplish this objective, an own developed numerical model, based on finite control volume approach, was developed and validated against experimental data. The numerical tool will be used to evaluate the energetic performance of the system under different weather conditions. Copyright © 2014 MS&T14®. | es |
