Technological advances are changing the way building technicians work. These advances are improving the productivity and efficiency of the tasks performed. Among the different tasks that a building technician can perform are the technical inspections associated with different activities (building damage assessment, health and safety inspections, conservation, and maintenance, etc.). This research aims to train future building professionals in these new work environments, as well as to teach students how to perform data collection. The research evaluated student satisfaction with the course and the use of the SafetyCulture application for data collection, through the Student Evaluation of Educational Quality (SEEQ) questionnaire. The results show a high level of student satisfaction, highlighting positively the teacher’s attitude and ability to attract attention. Consequently, the implementation of technological tools in the teaching of technical careers contributes to improving the quality of teaching and an improvement in the employment opportunities of construction and engineering students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines. © The Editor(s) (if applicable) and The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.es
