This chapter presents a general review of the research on mollusc shell recycling as aggregates in concrete production. The mollusc species studied were oyster, cockle, scallop and mussel. All these shells are similar in composition and their structure is made mainly of calcium carbonate. The use of recycled shell aggregates in concrete produces a reduction of the hardened density and a drop in workability. Also the mechanical properties at 7 and 28 days are negatively affected. This was due to the flaky shape of the aggregates and the presence of the nacre layer of the shells, which reduces bonding and increases porosity. © 2019 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.es
