Abstract
The increase in population and climate change in the country exert direct pressure on the water resource, generating uncertainty in its availability. The north of Chile is one of the more arid areas in the world, a characteristic that lately also extends to the central area, so it is essential to develop a potential alternative to this scarcity. Grey water is presented as an attractive opportunity to increase water availability, this is wastewater that excludes blackwater, it can be treated and reused in irrigation and flushing toilets. This study proposes a methodology for selecting treatment systems for homes in scarcity areas. Starting with the classification of commonly used technologies, their efficiency in treatment, characteristics and quality of tributaries and effluents respectively, obtaining the percentages of daily grey water consumption, and a selection matrix for single and multifamily dwellings. © 2021.
