Abstract
Innovation is a constant issue regarding precast concrete, with the aim of optimising the properties of products such as façade panels. Together with continuous development of new textures and finishes, acoustic performance and fire resistance have traditionally been regarded as the most limiting parameters in the design of façade panels for industrial buildings. Conversely, the concern for enhancing the thermal transmittance has but recently been included as a parameter, largely due to the need to increase the versatility of industrial buildings. As a result, solutions enhancing the thermal performance are developed, but may have negative effect on the mechanical properties of the panels. This text presents a state-of-the-art review of the industry, indicating common design values as well as optimization criteria that designers can use.
