Abstract
The standard UNE-EN 13374 "Temporary edge protection systems. Product specification, test methods" (1) classifies the temporary edge protection systems (TEPS) under three classes (A, B and C), based on the angle of the surface of work and the fall of the person to protect. The class A systems are the indicated when the inclination of the work surface is smaller than 10°. The standard establishes the requirements of deflection and strength of the TEPS. The requirements can be verified both analytically as experimentally. The aim of this work has been the evaluation of the behaviour of three TEPS class A -those commonly used in the construction works- and to establish the necessary changes so that they comply with the standard UNE-EN 13374. For it, three TEPS class A, made of steel S235, have been evaluated analytically and experimentally. The results obtained show that the system normally used in works does not comply with the requirements of the standard neither analytically nor experimentally. The third system fulfils the requirements with both methods of analysis. The second system surpasses the requirements when the evaluation is carried out analytically but not when it is performed experimentally.
